Our commitment to injury prevention, conditioning and training, nutrition, stress reduction, sports rehabilitation and sports psychology complement our ability to take care of and improved the performance of our patients. You do not have to be an athlete to be seen at the Athletic Institute of Medicine but you can count on receiving the same quality care and consideration we give our most elite performers.
At the Athletic Institute a Medicine, you will be asked to fill out a comprehensive history to help determine the underlying cause of your problem. This will include a 10-day food consumption diary and a questionnaire to determine your stress levels. Many of the orthopedic disorders are exacerbated by the foods we consume and increases in our stress levels. It is not uncommon to see improvement in Rheumatoid and Osteo-arthritis pain after dietary modifications. At the Athletic Institute of Medicine we work with a team of specialists that can help you establish good dietary habits and tips on how to decrease your stress levels and begin living a less stressful life. Recent studies have shown that chronic psychological stress is associated with your bodies inability to regulate the inflammatory response. Proper mind, body and nutrition assessment is paramount to establishing a good working diagnosis.
It is not uncommon to have patients present with the specific joint complaint that is a result of a biomechanical problem elsewhere. Therefore, our patients undergo a comprehensive assessment of their Core (spine, pelvic, hip complex), upper and lower extremity kinetic chain. During this time, we look for muscle imbalances, inefficient movements, joint motion deficits and problems with their kenetic chain, endurance and strength. We also do a gait and sports specific functional analysis. At this time we will analyze motion in the sagittal (flexion-extension), frontal (lateral side to side) and transverse (rotational) planes. If needed, we will use the latest in equipment and technology to better understand our patient’s problems. Many times comprehensive labs can be helpful in diagnosing underlying problems such as high cortisol and DHEA levels that can often times interfere with the bodies ability to self-heal and create hormonal imbalance.
After the initial assessment, we will initiate a treatment plan to help correct the underlying problem. We have enjoyed tremendous success working with a comprehensive team of specialists who focus on pain management, nutrition, hormonal imbalance, acupuncture, stress reduction, naturopathic medicine and kinetic chain optimization. Over the last 20 years we have used Regenerative Medicine techniques to support our patients in healing themselves without potentially harmful medication or invasive surgery. Regenerative medicine is often used to augment our surgical procedures.
Our goal at the Athletic Institute of Medicine is to get you back to your activities of daily and or sport activity as quickly and safely as possible. I’m sure you’re visit with us will be an educational, pleasant and rewarding experience
